The history of the Sierra Madre Fire Department began over one century ago on the morning of January 21, 1921, when a raging fire broke out at the Sierra Madre Bakery and the closest responding unit was 30 minutes away. Once the fire was extinguished a conversation arose between the city and its residents for the essential need of a local fire agency. It was this incident that sparked the development of the Sierra Madre Volunteer Fire Department.
